TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google has decided to use the name 'Palestine' in the cyber world instead of 'Palestinian Territorial'. The change has been applied since May 1st and it has already been posted in the Palestinian Google page: www.google.ps.
Nathan Tyler, Google spoke person, mentioned that Google has consulted with various sources and authorities such as the United Nation (UN) and other international organizations regarding the naming of nations.
Palestine received global recognition in a UN Decree last year. Last November, the UN General Assembly put Palestine status in a vote, with the result of 138 supporting, 41 abstain, and 9 opposing it.
Since then, the Palestinian authority started using ‘Palestine’ in several diplomatic correspondences and issued an official Palestine stamp.
This decision made Israel furious, questioning Google about the change. Yigal Palmor, Foreign Affair spoke person, mentioned that "The change has raised a question of why Google, a private internet company in an international politics, have to partake such kind of act".
