TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno met with Poland-based game developer and publisher 11 Bit Studios. The company has a valuation of US$400 billion and has produced a series of world-class games.
Sandiaga expressed that he’s exploring the cooperation potential with the company to develop Indonesia’s gaming industry. "Potential collaboration can be in the form of joint publications, art and porting, services, joint development to share best practices," he said in a written statement, on Sunday, August 25, 2024, as reported by Antara.
According to Sandiaga, 11 Bit Studios has state-of-the-art and modern graphic capabilities by utilizing cultural values in its game development. "The developers of 11 Bit Studios and game developers in Indonesia have similarities, including applying a touch of cultural values in their game productions," said Sandiaga.
Sandiaga also saw some similarities between 11 Bit Studios and Indonesia. According to Sandiaga, Indonesia, as a country with rich culture, ethnicities, and diverse backgrounds, often highlights the numerous cultures of Nusantara in its game production. For example, ‘Coral Island’ brings up Balinese culture and environment while ‘A Space for the Unbound’ illustrates the daily life of Indonesia’s rural students.
One of the games produced by 11 Bit Studios, said Sandiaga, is Frostpunk. The background of this game is the 1886-1887 eruptions of Mount Krakatoa and Tambora that resulted in severe global weather changes. The game sold over 250,000 copies during the first 3 days of sales and won the best visual award from the Australian Game Awards.
"I hope (game developers in Poland) can invest and collaborate with suitable Indonesian games so they are successful in the international markets,” said Sandiaga.
