TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo attended the national consolidation event for the 2024 Regional Head Elections at the Jakarta Convention Center on August 20, 2024. He commended the General Elections Commission (KPU) for organizing the 2024 Presidential and Legislative Elections safely, orderly, and efficiently.

“I understand very well that organizing simultaneous elections is difficult,” he said in his remarks.

He said this year’s election was the largest in Indonesian history, involving 164,227,475 valid votes cast across 822,699 polling stations.

He acknowledged the fatigue experienced by election officials who recently completed their duties in the Presidential Election. “I know, the weariness hasn't completely gone away. Let alone cases at the Constitutional Court (MK) has just finished recently,” he added.

The Constitutional Court has finalized its review of 106 cases related to the 2024 Legislative Election Results Dispute (PHPU), with decisions rendered on June 6, 7, and 10, 2024.

Jokowi expressed gratitude to election officials who will continue to oversee the Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) in 508 regencies/cities across 37 provinces. The Pilkada is scheduled for November 28, 2024, with an estimated 203 million eligible voters.

To acknowledge the hard work of KPU employees, the President announced an increase in their incentives. He apologized for the lack of a salary hike since 2014 and explained that the incentive increase was calculated at a 50% rate.
