TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President-elect Prabowo Subianto stressed his commitment to continue and complete the construction of Nusantara Capital City (IKN). If it’s possible, he said, he would like to expedite the construction.
The statement was made by Prabowo, who is also the Minister of Defense, while attending a cabinet meeting led by President Joko Widodo or Jokowi at the Garuda Palace, IKN, on Monday, August 12, 2024.
Prabowo, as stated by the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, emphasized the necessity of IKN for equitable development and to ease the burden on Java Island which has become the center of Indonesian population and economic activities.
"I have emphasized multiple times that we will complete IKN considering its necessity,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo expressed his pride in the strong cultural nuances of IKN and appreciated Jokowi’s administration for initiating the new capital construction.
The president-elect vowed to accelerate the IKN construction, especially in the core government area.
"I want to ensure IKN Authority that we have allotted a significant room for the budget to allow us to complete several crucial things in IKN,” he said.
Prabowo will prioritize the construction of several major buildings, such as the DPR and MPR building, house members’ residence, the Supreme Court building, and the Constitutional Court building. He claimed the capital city is operable if the abovementioned infrastructure is ready.
