TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has announced a potential bonus of Rp6 billion for each gold medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

"The bonus for a gold medal could range from Rp5 billion to Rp6 billion, with the possibility of an increase," stated Yohan, an expert staff member at the Youth and Sports Ministry, during a Jakarta press conference on Friday.

The final amount will be determined by President Joko Widodo. There is a strong likelihood that the bonuses for Indonesian Olympic medalists will be increased.

"Ultimately, the President will decide on the bonuses, as he typically does," Yohan explained.

Indonesia has already secured two gold and one bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

Veddriq Leonardo won the first gold in men's speed climbing on Thursday, followed by Rizki Juniansyah's gold in men's 73kg weightlifting.

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung claimed the bronze in women's singles badminton.

With these two gold medals, Indonesia has climbed to 28th in the medal standings.

Weightlifter Nurul Akmal still has a chance to add to the country's medal count in the women's 81kg category.

Yohan expressed the government's appreciation for all athletes competing in Paris, both medalists and those who fell short.

He emphasized the athletes' dedication and the coaches' hard work. The government aims to build upon this success for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
