TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thomas Djiwandono commented on his appointment as deputy finance minister in the government of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi. Tommy, as he is commonly referred to, said his role was to ensure policy continuity ahead of the handover to President-elect Prabowo Subianto.
"Our job, my job, is to make sure that all matters related to the budget, especially in 2025, are in line with what has been initiated by the current government and of course the future programs of the president-elect," Thomas said after being inaugurated at the State Palace on Thursday, July 18.
Jokowi inaugurated three deputy ministers at the State Palace today based on Presidential Decree No. 45/N of 2024. In addition to Thomas Djiwandono as Deputy Finance Minister, Jokowi also appointed Sudaryono as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Yuliot Tanjung as Deputy Minister of Investment Affairs.
In carrying out his duties, Tommy will work side by side with Deputy Minister Suahasil Nazara.
Tommy has been the General Treasurer of the Gerindra Party since 2014. The nephew of Prabowo Subianto, Tommy is a member of the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka's Synchronization Task Force Team, a team led by Sufmi Dasco Ahmad to synchronize policies ahead of the transition of power from Jokowi to Prabowo. Tommy was introduced as a member of the task force in charge of economic and financial affairs.
