TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi embarked on a working visit to Malaysia on Wednesday, July 3. She was scheduled to meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and her Malaysian counterpart Mohamad Hasan.
The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) said in its press statement received in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday that the meeting would discuss the status of cooperation between the two countries in preparation for the 17th Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), which was slated to be held in Indonesia this year.
According to the statement, the two foreign ministers would also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Foreign Minister Retno also planned to pay a courtesy call to PM Anwar Ibrahim.
As neighbors and ASEAN members, the Malaysia-Indonesia relationship is crucial not only from a bilateral perspective but also in the context of regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
The press statement also noted that the visit would revive the bonds of friendship and reflect the close relationship and cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia.
In 2023, Indonesia was Malaysia's seventh-largest trading partner in the world and the third-largest in ASEAN, with a trade volume of 111.21 billion Malaysian Ringgit or about Rp385.89 trillion.
