TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Law and Human Rights Ministry affirmed that the Thai delegation's visit to the Jakarta Narcotics Correctional Institution on Friday, June 28, 2024, could boost the cooperation in the correctional sector between both nations.

"We hope that this visit can be a good step to establish closer cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of correctional management," the ministry's Secretary of the Directorate General of Corrections, Supriyanto, remarked on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

Supriyanto said that the ministry is open to sharing best practices or experiences on correctional management that have been carried out in Indonesia.

During the visit, the Thai delegation witnessed the coaching and rehabilitation programs implemented at the Jakarta Narcotics Correctional Institution.

The ministry's Director of Prisoner and Juvenile Correctional Development Erwedi Supriyatno explained that the facility has personality development and other coaching programs.

He highlighted that it also organizes various types of certified or regular training, either held independently or in collaboration with partners.

Thai delegation's head, Parit Wacharasindu, said that his delegation's visit aims to check the handling of recidivism in Indonesia.

"We are grateful to be welcomed here, and we want to see and learn about the handling of recidivism here because the recidivism rate is quite high in Thailand," he said.

He affirmed that the visit could help strengthen bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand in the correctional sector and exchange best practices in tackling recidivism.

At the Jakarta Narcotics Correctional facility, the delegation was keen to learn about the programs that can help prisoners get back on the right path after serving their sentences.

Apart from the exchange of information and experiences, the Law and Human Rights Ministry and the Thai delegation also explored more concrete cooperation, comparative studies, and adaptation of best practices.
