TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian wushu team clinched two more gold medals in the Taolu competitions at the 2024 ASEAN University Games (AUG) held at Surabaya University Sports Center in Surabaya, East Java, on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

The victories came from Calista Alexandra Setiawan in the women's Taijijian event and Hanamaira Alinskha in the women's Nandao event.

Setiawan triumphed with a score of 9.480, edging out Singapore's Teo Yu CXuan (9.470 points) and fellow Indonesian Zefanya Adelia Sidharta (9.453 points). Alinskha secured gold in the Nandao event with a score of 9.480, followed by Singaporean Lee Sze Min (silver, 9.466 points).

Additionally, Indonesian athlete Hendy Irmanto secured a silver medal in the men's Taijijian event with a score of 9.470, falling short of the gold medal won by Singapore's Cah Jun Kai (9.476 points).

"Alhamdulillah (thank God), I am very satisfied with the result," Alinskha stated. "There was pressure because there were only a few participants, so I really wanted to be the champion."

Setiawan echoed this sentiment, revealing that she focused on building confidence after previously winning silver in the Taijiquan event.

"The key is to trust myself more that I can perform as well as during training," she remarked.

On the same occasion, the Indonesian wushu team's manager, Sherly Hoediono, expressed pride in the athletes' performances, noting that they performed outstandingly, and some even exceeded their training level.

She underscored that the achievement is inseparable from the hard work of the athletes who have trained maximally.

The 2024 AUG is being held from June 25 to July 6 in Surabaya and Malang, East Java.

With these additional victories, the Indonesian wushu team has so far garnered a total of eight gold medals, six silver medals, and four bronze medals.
