TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams and Chairman of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Laksana Tri Handoko launched new funding assistance for research on June 21, 2024. Under this initiative, qualified organizations from Australia and Indonesia will be invited to submit research proposals under the theme "Indonesian Bioeconomy: Maximizing Sustainable Use of Marine Biodiversity 2024."

This collaborative research funding will be jointly financed by Australia and Indonesia, providing an opportunity for organizations from both countries to collaborate on marine biodiversity, including areas related to health, food, and energy.

"Australia and Indonesia continue to strengthen societal connections and institutional partnerships for inclusive, innovative, and sustainable development. This collaborative research assistance will enhance two-way learning between our nations," Ambassador Williams stated.

Registration is open to various organizations in Indonesia and Australia, including universities, research institutions, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. This program is supported through the KONEKSI initiative, part of Australia's development partnership with Indonesia.

Previously, in May 2024, Australia and Indonesia launched the Australia Indonesia Research Partnership (PAIR), a bilateral research collaboration focused on Sulawesi. The program was endorsed by Ambassador Williams PSM and Faiz Syuaib, a senior official from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

PAIR Sulawesi is an initiative of the Australia Indonesia Centre (AIC), a consortium of leading research universities in both countries. Built upon AIC's mission to advance cross-cultural relations in science, technology, education, innovation, and culture, the primary AIC institution is Monash University. The anchor institution for PAIR Sulawesi is Hasanuddin University. This innovative collaboration marks a significant step forward in research partnership between Australia and Indonesia, with both governments investing on equal footing.
