Jakarta International Marathon; 36 Roads to Be Blocked on June 23

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government has announced the closure of 36 roads in Central Jakarta and South Jakarta for the 2024 Jakarta International Marathon (JAKIM) on Sunday, June 23, from 02:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Syafrin Liputo, Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, confirmed the information Jakarta on Tuesday. He explained that the traffic reroutes will start on Saturday, June 22, at 09:00 p.m. in a bid to ensure the safety of around 15,000 marathon participants.
The JAKIM 2024 is held as part of the celebration of Jakarta's 497th Anniversary. This sporting event also aims to promote the capital's role as a sports tourism city.
Race Categories and Routes
The JAKIM 2024 will be centered around the northwest area of the National Monument or Monas and will finish at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Senayan. Syafrin mentioned three categories of races in this event: the Marathon (42.195 kilometers), the Half Marathon (21.0975 kilometers), and the 10K. The Marathon category will start at 04:00 a.m., followed by the Half Marathon at 05:15 a.m., and 10 kilometers at 06:15 a.m.

Jakarta apologizes
The Jakarta Provincial Government apologizes for the inconvenience caused to the public by road closures and traffic diversions. “We apologize for the inconvenience caused. We hope that the community will join in enlivening Jakarta's anniversary, including on the JAKIM 2024 agenda,” Syafrin said.
The city administration emphasized its commitment to implement the principles of security, safety, and sterilization in the implementation of this sporting event. Aside from the road closures, the weekly car-free day or CFD event in the affected area would be canceled.
