TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned of tidal flooding in several coastal areas of Indonesia during the full moon on June 22, 2024.

Head of the BMKG Maritime Meteorology Center, Eko Prasetyo, detailed that based on the water level data and tidal predictions, the tidal floods will likely occur on the coast of North Sumatra, the coast of West Sumatra, the coast of Banten, the coast of Central Java, the coast of East Java, and the coast of Ambon.

The flood will potentially come at differing times for each region. “It will generally affect the coastal and port activities, such as loading and unloading goods at the ports, activities in coastal settlements, as well as salt ponds and inland fisheries," said Eko, quoted from a press release on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

BMKG, said Eko, urged the residents to remain vigilant and anticipate the impact of the high tides. He also advised the public to pay attention to updated maritime weather reports from the official BMKG source.
