TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that based on monitoring by the Modis Sensor, namely the Tera, Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA20 satellites, three hotspots have been detected in North Sumatra.

"The three hotspots are detected in Dolok District, North Padang Lawas Regency," said forecaster at BMKG Medan Aryo Prasetyo Mulyo on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, as reported by Antara.

The hotspots have been conveyed to relevant stakeholders for anticipation. He also urged the residents to avoid burning lands considering the hot weather.

BMKG also forecasts that parts of North Sumatra will rain on Thursday afternoon. Drizzles are expected in Langkat, Medan, Binjai, Deli Serdang, Pematang Siantar, Simalungun, Asahan, Tebing Tinggi, Batubara, Toba, Labuhanbatu, Sibolga, Dairi, Mandailing Natal and Nias Islands.

In the evening, rain is expected in Langkat, Binjai, Medan, Karo, Pematang Siantar, Toba, North Padang Lawas, North Labuhan Batu, and surrounding areas.

In the early hours of Friday, June 21, 2024, there is rain potential in Langkat, Binjai, Karo, Asahan, and surrounding areas.

"Beware of the downpours in parts of the East Coast, East Slope, and the North Sumatran mountains which could potentially cause floods, landslides, and other hydrometeorological disasters," said Aryo.
