TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) released a weather forecast for Jakarta Greater or Jabodetabek, in which the entire capital area is likely to be partly cloudy today, June 7.
The entire area of the central metropolis will again see zero precipitation, with the air temperature ranging from 23 to 32 degrees Celsius and the air humidity level of 60-90 degrees Celsius. However, the Thousand Islands will have clear skies overnight into the early hours of Saturday.
The persistent sunny weather contrasts with that of Jakarta’s neighboring regions. Bogor City and Bekasi City in West Java will have partly cloudy skies on Friday morning and drizzle before noon.
Meanwhile, the weather in the Banten area is still identical to Jakarta. With temperatures ranging from 23 to 34 degrees Celsius, Tangerang City and Merak Harbor are expected to be partly cloudy in the afternoon and evening.
Siswanto, the BMKG’s extreme weather and climate officer, revealed that Jakarta's surface temperature has risen significantly by 1.6 degrees Celsius in the past 130 years due to changes in the landscape from being dominated by plant vegetation to being a real estate area.
According to him, the spike in Jakarta's surface temperature was greater than the increase in global and regional temperatures. The climate has changed significantly as the city has grown.
“This indicates an increase in surface temperature by one degree Celsius, which can raise the severity of rain by 14 percent,” Siswanto said in a written statement on June 5.
