TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia, in collaboration with the Norway Government, hosts the “International Fish Trade, Global Applicable Framework and Market Access" training in Jakarta from June 4 to 6. The event is a follow-up of the MoU on Economic Cooperation and Capacity Building (MoU ECCB) of the Indonesia-EFTA Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-EFTA CEPA).

The training is a collaboration between the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the Government of Norway, the EFTA (European Free Trade Association) Secretariat, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and Infofish.

According to the official website of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the training materials focus on the international trade of fishery products, including international fish trade instruments, preferential access for fishery and aquaculture products, market access, legality, and fishery products.

It is part of capacity-building cooperation in the ECCB I-EFTA CEPA MoU implementation. Previously in 2023, two similar training sessions were also conducted in Bergen, Norway.

"These trainings demonstrate the Indonesian Government's commitment to enhancing the utilization of the I-EFTA CEPA," said Afina Burhanuddin, Acting Coordinator of the EFTA Desk of the Directorate of American and European Intra-regional Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Besides enhancing the understanding and skills of Indonesia’s competent authorities and business communities, this training also serves as a platform to discuss the dynamics and developments of international trade in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

The event was attended by 47 participants from related Ministries and 7 fisheries business associations. Those include APIKI (Indonesian Fish Canning Association), AP5I (Association of Indonesian Fish Processing and Marketing Producers), APRI (Indonesian Crab Processing Association), AP2HI (Indonesian Pole & Line and Handline Fisheries Association), ASTUIN (Indonesian Tuna Association), INOFE (Indonesian Ornamental Fish Exporters Association), and ADI (Indonesian Demersal Association).

The I-EFTA CEPA is a comprehensive economic partnership agreement between Indonesia and four EFTA countries: Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland. Since it entered into force on November 1, 2021, the trade value between the two parties has continuously increased, reaching US$2.3 billion (2021), US$3.19 billion (2022) and US$3.77 billion (2023).
