TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An international online travel booking, Agoda, has revealed that Thailand is the top choice of Asian destination for European tourists due to its breathtaking natural scenery and exotic islands, according to its latest survey.
Among the myriad of holiday attractions in Thailand, here is the list of the top three favored destinations among Europeans:
1. Phuket
Phuket stands as the most bustling destination in Thailand. According to a study by MoneyTransfers.com last year, the island was deemed the most overcrowded destination in the world, with 118 tourists for every resident. Nevertheless, the island continues to lure tourists.
Most visitors to Phuket engage in revelry rather than seeking a tranquil vacation, with Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Lee in the Phi Phi Islands being the top choices. Other charming islets in the region include the iconic James Bond Island, renowned as the filming location for the 1974 James Bond film, "The Man With the Golden Gun."
2. Bangkok
Travelers who relish crowds, culinary delights, and cultural experiences will undoubtedly gravitate towards Bangkok. The capital city of Thailand is replete with temples, diverse street food vendors operating until the early hours, and a vibrant nightlife scene.
Within a day, tourists can visit the giant golden Buddha statue at Wat Pho and relish the spectacular vistas of Wat Arun, or partake in souvenir shopping at the bustling Chatuchak Weekend Market every Saturday. In the evening, one can venture to the food stalls in Chinatown to savor the delectable local cuisine. For a more leisurely trip, one can indulge in a traditional Thai massage or unwind in Lumpini Park, the only green space in the city.
3. Krabi
Tourists can still savor the splendid natural surroundings and laid-back ambiance while exploring the island. There is a plethora of activities to partake in the area, but the foremost pursuit that entices visitors is island hopping, as numerous small islands are accessible by boat or speedboat, accommodating larger or smaller groups, where they can swim or dive to behold the beauty of the underwater realm.
For a more challenging adventure, tourists can join a limestone climbing tour right by the sea at Railay Beach. These limestone cliffs boast over 700 routes of varying difficulty, making it an ideal attraction for climbers of all proficiency levels, from novices to seasoned climbers.
Krabi also has its natural hot springs, locally known as Namtok Ron. The water maintains an average temperature of around 40-50 degrees Celsius, providing ample relaxation for weary muscles after a day of exploration on the island.
