TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Member of the Ombudsman Indonesia, Yeka Hendra Fatika, revealed that the potential loss from oil palm maladministration complaints from 2021 to now is worth Rp524.71 billion.

"The loss consists of material ones, not immaterial losses,” he said on Monday, May 27, 2024. Of this amount, the total potential loss saved by the Ombudsman is Rp322.59 billion.

Yeka said 239 reports of oil palm maladministration were submitted to the Ombudsman from 2018 to 2024. "It concerned various substances and institutions,” he said.

Based on the substance, the complaints received were related to agrarian affairs with 69 complaints, plantations, agriculture, and food with 36 complaints, police with 24 complaints, and licensing with 23 complaints. Followed by 21 complaints each related to forestry and employment, 16 complaints related to cooperatives, and small and medium enterprises. Meanwhile, there were 11 complaints related to trade, industry, and logistics, 10 environmental complaints, and 8 complaints related to the prosecutor's office.

Meanwhile, the institutions reported to the Ombudsman include local government with 92 complaints as of April 2024, followed by the Ministry of ATR/BPN, the National Police, the provincial government, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the prosecutor's office.

Additionally, people also report PT Perkebunan Nusantara, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, BPJS Employment, and the Oil Palm Plantation Fund Management Agency to the Ombudsman.

"So, the issue of oil palm is quite broad. Ombudsman believes these reports must be reduced to avoid additional complaints,” said Yeka.

The Ombudsman also noted four maladministration-related issues reported to the agency, namely concerning land, business permits, trade systems, and oil palm management.
