TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation responded to the bus accident in Ciater, Subang, West Java. The Trans Putera Fajar bus carrying a group of teachers and students at Lingga Kencana Vocational High School was overturned in Subang on Saturday evening, May 11, 2024.

The Ministry of Transportation revealed that the bus did not have a transportation permit. Additionally, the bus, suspected of brake failure during the accident, had an expired periodic test result of December 6, 2023. Ministry records showed that the bus failed to extend its periodic tests within six months, as regulated.

"We ask that every PO (autobus company) routinely carry out periodic tests on their vehicles per the Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 19 of 2021 concerning Periodic Testing of Motor Vehicles," said the Director General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, Hendro Sugiatno in his statement, Sunday, May 12, 2024.

Hendro also urged the public not to be tempted by cheap bus prices. "(Passengers) must confirm regarding vehicle operational permits, vehicle KIR test status, driver's condition, as well as the existence of appropriate rest areas for drivers," he said.

He asked the public to regularly check the Mitra Darat application to ensure that the bus they are traveling on is roadworthy. He also emphasized the importance of using safety belts on public transportation. According to him, safety belts can reduce the fatality rate of accidents.

As for the fatal accident of the Trans Putera Fajar Bus in Subang last weekend, it was reported that 11 people died, 12 people were seriously injured, and 20 people suffered minor injuries.
