TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - On Friday, April 26, 2024, the Indonesia U-23 national team played against the South Korean U-23 players at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha, Qatar. Indonesia secured a place in the semi-finals of the AFC U-23 Asian Cup after defeating the South Koreans on penalties. Here are the facts about the match:

1. Indonesia scores two goals

In the 15th minute, Rafael Struick unleashed a shot from outside the penalty area that flew into the corner of the South Korean net, unmarked by goalkeeper Baek Jong-bum.

But South Korea equalized in the 45th minute when Rio Fahmi and Komang Teguh failed to clear a cross from the left side of the Indonesian defense. The South Korean's header struck Komang and found the back of Ernando Ari's net.

Late in the first half. He received a long pass from behind by Ivar Jenner, controlled the ball, and beat the South Korean goalkeeper with a left-footed shot to restore Indonesia's lead.

2. South Korea shoots two goals

In the 45th minute, when Rio Fahmi and Komang Teguh failed to clear a cross from the left side of the Indonesian defense, the South Korean's header hit Komang and went into Ernando Ari's net.

South Korea equalized at 2-2. From a counter-attack, substitute Jeong Sang-bin received the ball well and finished with a right-footed shot that beat goalkeeper Ernando.

3. South Korea receives two red cards

Australian referee Shaun Evans handed out two red cards in the match. The first was given to South Korean striker Lee Yung-jun in the 70th minute. The Taeguk Warriors' top scorer was adjudged to have committed a dangerous foul on Justin Hubner after the referee reviewed the incident via VAR.

The second red card was shown to coach Hwang Sun-hong at the end of the second half. Referee Shaun Evans judged that the 55-year-old tactician made a strong protest, which resulted in him being sent off from the touchline.

4. South Korea wins on penalties

South Korea won the penalty shootout after goalkeeper Baek Jong-bum saved Justin Hubner's shot. However, referee Shaun Evans annulled the win because the assistant referee on the left side of the goal ruled that the goalkeeper had moved first without stepping on the goal line before the kick was taken.

As a result, the penalty kick was retaken and Hubner did his job well. Things turned around when Indonesia's U-23 team managed to win the match.

5. Arhan determines Indonesia's victory

After the kick-off, the two goalkeepers from each team did a good job until the 10th minute. Ernando Ari became a star after his success in blocking Lee Kang-hee's kick.

On the other hand, Pratama Arhan, who was the deciding kicker, performed well and led the Indonesian U-23 national team to an 11-10 victory.
