TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi stated that the Indonesian government is ready upon request to facilitate investment in the construction of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) along the MRT Jakarta route.

According to him, the project has the potential as a solution to overcome pollution and traffic congestion. Additionally, the TOD project also has commercial value, he said during the 2024 TOD Investment Forum at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, on Thursday. This forum was also attended by the Parliamentary Vice Minister for MLIT Ishibashi.

The minister said the TOD project along the MRT route creates opportunities for collaboration across sectors, such as real estate, retail, and hotels.

Minister Budi promised that the TOD development plan around the Jakarta MRT stations would offer unique investment and innovation opportunities. In addition, he believes that TOD development can create an integrated environment between residential, commercial, and recreational spaces.

"TOD not only improves connectivity and accessibility but also the welfare of Jakarta residents and Jakarta’s economic growth," he said.

"Along the MRT routes, from North-South and East-West, there are many strategic and commercial points that can be operated once the MRT’s development is concluded," he added.

However, he stated that the government could not carry out the development by itself. Therefore, he invited investors, authorities, and stakeholders from Japan to work together to optimize the TOD project potential.

"On behalf of the Indonesian government, I am committed to supporting this activity and we will support (the development plan),” he said.

Meanwhile, PT MRT Jakarta prepared six investment bid projects in this forum. These include the development of Mixed Use Blok M, Pedestrian Deck Sudirman Hub Dukuh Atas, Revitalization of Sudirman Station, Extended Concourse HI Roundabout, Extended Concourse Fatmawati, and Revitalization of West Setiabudi Reservoir.
