TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The legal teams of Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md. are optimistic that the Constitutional Court (MK) will rule in their favor in the upcoming decision hearing for the presidential election dispute on Monday, April 22. The Constitutional Justices will decide whether to disqualify Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming in the 2024 elections.

The head of the Anies-Muhaimin (AMIN) Legal Team, Ari Yusuf Amir, admitted that he was very confident that the panel of judges would grant his team's request after seeing the trial process. According to him, the judges were proactive during the trial, an indication of sincerity.

“The judges even grant our request to summon the ministers," Ari told Tempo on Thursday.

According to Ari, the judges are likely to take into consideration the validity of Gibran’s vice-presidential candidacy. Ari said the General Elections Commission (KPU) approved Gibran’s registration for candidacy based on MK Decision Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023 without changing KPU Regulation No. 19 of 2023.

"The regulation sets a minimum of 40 years of age for vice presidential candidates. At the time of registration, Gibran was not 40 yet," said Ari.

The Deputy for Legal Affairs of Ganjar-Mahfud, Todung Mulya Lubis, declared a similar notion to Anies’ legal team. According to him, the judges will rule in their favor as MK's Decision on the presidential age limit was ethically flawed.

Anwar Usman, former Chief Justice and none other than Gibran Rakabuming's uncle was sanctioned by the MK Ethical Council and resigned from his seat due to a conflict of interest while handling the case.

“And this was not corrected by the KPU. KPU actually implemented the [Constitutional Court] decision," Todung told Tempo.
