TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Airplane is a mode of transportation that provides unparalleled speed, convenience, and safety. Though the cost of airfare is generally more expensive than other forms of public transportation, planes remain the preferred choice, particularly for long-distance travel.

In various parts of the world, airlines set expensive ticket prices that are commensurate with the facilities and distance traveled. Based on the 2024 Gitnux Market Data Report, here is a list of the top 10 airlines with the most expensive plane tickets in the world:

1. Virgin Atlantic Airways

Passengers who wish to indulge in the Virgin Atlantic Airways upper-class suite must prepare a sum of US$46,200 or Rp671 million (at an assumed exchange rate of Rp14,525). Passengers are privy to spa and massage services, convertible seats that transform into beds, and entertainment devices, and may relish in the amenities of ten lounges and nine clubhouses.

2. Lufthansa Airlines

The price of a Lufthansa Airlines first-class ticket from New York, United States to Hong Kong reaches US$43,535 or Rp632 million. The first class of the German national airline, which has been operating since 1953, offers several exclusive facilities, including lounges and Porsche-designed slippers.

3. Etihad Airways

In March 2021, Etihad Airways sold plane tickets for a one-way flight from New York to Mumbai, India for US$38,000, or about Rp551 million. The airline from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also provides Residence Suites class which is set at around US$20,000 or Rp290 million one-way.

4. Cathay Pacific Airways

Cathay Pacific Airways First Class charges US$31,000 or Rp450 million for a trip from Hong Kong to New York. With a plentiful budget to spare, passengers can enjoy a large bed, the freedom to choose any film or series, and relish in international quality wines.

5. Korean Air

To travel round-trip from New York to Beijing in the Korean Air Kosmo Suite First Class, passengers must spend US$27,000 or Rp392 million. Apart from the special services provided, passengers will also fly on the largest Airbus, which can carry more than 555 people with a fairly spacious cabin.

6. All Nippon Airways (ANA)

All Nippon Airways offers first-class airline tickets from Los Angeles, United States, to Tokyo, Japan, for US$17,000 or Rp246 million. Headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, the company guarantees complete privacy for its passengers. Some of the best features provided include a bed, wardrobe, and international telephone line.

7. Asiana Airlines

A round-trip ticket from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia in Asiana Airlines First Class Suite costs approximately US$14,461 or Rp210 million. The cost includes premium service, comfort, and in-flight amenities.

8. Singapore Airlines

The cost to experience a flight with a Singapore Airlines private suite reaches US$14,000 or Rp203 million. For this amount, passengers can indulge in luxurious and exclusive accommodations while traveling from Singapore to New York.

9. Japan Airlines

Japan Airlines provides first-class flights from Los Angeles to Tokyo for US$13,000 or Rp188 million. Passengers are not only provided with five-star service but also with several luxurious facilities.

10. Swiss Air

With a price of approximately US$11,000 or Rp159 million, Swiss Air First Class is one of the airlines with the most expensive tickets in the world for a one-way trip from Los Angeles to Bangkok, Thailand.
