TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - There has been a significant increase in vehicles crossing a number of sections on the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) since the third day after Eid. Last night was estimated as the peak period for homecomers to return to Jakarta, as reported by state-owned toll road operator PT Hutama Karya.

The company's EVP corporate secretary Adjib Al Hakim said that between April 12 and 14, the volume of traffic crossing JTTS reached 437,979 vehicles. "This means that it has increased significantly by 107 percent compared to the normal days volume," he said on Monday, April 15.

This increase reflected the return trips of Eid homecomers via the Trans Sumatra Toll Road. It consisted of the number of vehicles crossing the Terbanggi Besar - Kayu Agung (Terpeka) Toll Road, which increased by 77 percent to 85,762 vehicles, and those crossing the Palembang - Prabumulih (Palindra & Inprabu) Toll Road with 71,240 vehicles, increasing by 100 percent of the normal volume.

Meanwhile, the number of vehicles crossing the Bengkulu - Taba Penanjung (Bengtaba) Toll Road reached 11,760 or up by 164 percent compared to normal days. On the Pekanbaru - Bangkinang (Pekbang) toll road, 38,083 vehicles crossed, which is 121 percent compared to normal volume; and the number of vehicles passing the Pekanbaru - Dumai (Permai) toll road reached 61,747, up by 27 percent.

The Indrapura - Limapuluh (Inkis) Toll Road recorded 79,213 vehicles, 221 percent higher than normal traffic volume. The Binjai - Tanjung Pura (Binsa) Toll Road recorded an increase of 115 percent to 62,841 vehicles, and the Sigli - Banda Aceh Toll Road recorded 27,333 vehicles or an increase of 176 percent from normal days.

In the same period, the additional functional toll roads during the Eid return flow, namely the Bangkinang-XIII Koto Kampar Toll Road, recorded the traffic of 11,094 vehicles, while the Indrapura-Kisaran Section Fifty-Kisaran Toll Road recorded the traffic of 32,033 vehicles.

The peak of Eid homecoming return traffic on the Trans Sumatra Toll Road has occurred since Sunday. Hutama Karya predicts that the increase in vehicles and traffic will continue until Monday evening.
