TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi released the government's respective US$1 million or Rp30 billion worth of humanitarian aid for Palestine and Sudan. Jokowi released the aid packages in the form of medicines and health facilities from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, on Wednesday morning, April 3, 2024.

"The Indonesian Government is committed to maintaining world peace and actively participating in humanitarian missions," Jokowi said.

This aid delivery followed the departure of the Aju Team to Cairo, Egypt led by Brigadier General Pol (Ret) Ary Laksmana Widjaja, and to Port of Sudan led by Brigadier General Lukmansyah.

Aju Team is tasked with coordinating with the authorities in Sudan and Egypt with the assistance of the Indonesian Embassy in Khartoum and the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo to prepare the Indonesian delegation that will bring humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese and Palestinians through the Egyptian Government.

The delegation to Cairo will be led by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy, while the delegation to the Port of Sudan will be led by the Head of BNPB, Lieutenant General Suharyanto.

The assistance is sent as per request from both Egypt and Sudan. The request from the Egyptian Government is aimed at helping the health management of the Palestinian people who are currently displaced in Egypt.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) provides its ready-to-use fund (DSP) to deliver this aid, with approval from the Ministerial Coordination Meeting and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As of March 2024, the victims of the Israeli invasion in the Gaza region killed at least 32,333 (12,900 children and 8,400 women), 74,694 wounded, and 8,100 missing. After the Israeli ground invasion of North and Central Gaza, Palestinians in Gaza fled to Rafah, South Gaza.

Currently, Egypt hosts more than 1.5 million Palestinian refugees, in Rafah City for which the Egyptian Government sent a list of requests for assistance for urgently needed goods.

The Government of Sudan also expects similar assistance from the Government of Indonesia for its people who are victims of internal conflicts and outbreaks of cholera. Sudan announced that there are at least 2,525 suspected cases of diarrhea or acute liquid cholera suffered by the local community, requiring medical equipment.
