Foreigners living in Indonesia have the right to own and obtain an Indonesian Identity Card (ID Card) or KTP as per the prevailing regulations.

3. List of Goods to Be Declared to Customs Before Traveling Abroad

Indonesian social media has recently been abuzz with a viral video about goods carried abroad that must be declared to customs so that travelers do not have to pay import tax on their goods when they return home.

The video caused an online uproar, as the policy is seen as burdensome for people traveling abroad. The Finance Ministry’s spokesman Yustinus Prastowo, on behalf of the Director General of Customs and Excise, responded to the confusion and misinformation caused by the video on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account.
