TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice presidential candidate number three, Mahfud Md, attended the election dispute hearing at the Constitutional Court or MK on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. Before the court, Mahfud claimed that many other countries have canceled fraudulent election results.

According to Mahfud, these countries cancel election results as a form of judicial activism. "In various countries, judicial activism is carried out by the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court, several countries have canceled election results that were carried out fraudulently and violated procedures," Mahfud said in his speech.

The former Chief Justice said the countries included Australia, Ukraine, Bolivia, Kenya, Malawi, and Thailand. In addition, he said, there is also Belarus whose judicial institution is considered “a sham institution” due to its constant intervention in the government.

Mahfud said the call to cancel the election results could come from the conscience of the judges, and not always demanded by other individuals or institutions.

Therefore, Mahfud hopes that the Constitutional Court can take important steps to save the future of democracy and law in Indonesia. "Do not make it a habit that elections can only be won by those who have power or are close to power and have abundant money," he said.

Mahfud also said that his team's lawsuit at the Constitutional Court was not just a matter of who won or lost. He said this issue was beyond elections. "But it should educate people to save the future of Indonesia with a more advanced civilization," he added.

The Constitutional Court heard two cases in the presidential election results dispute today, including one by Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud Md. The court will continue the hearing tomorrow, Thursday, March 28, 2024.
