TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Polda Metro Jaya together with the Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Office (KPPBC) thwarted the smuggling of 1,503 grams of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) or ecstasy powder. The China-based international network smuggled the illicit goods into three jars of energy drinks.

Director of Drug Detection of Polda Metro Jaya, High Commissioner Hengki, said that the perpetrators outsmarted the smuggling of MDMA powder by sending it from abroad using the Netherland Post expedition service. Each package comes from the sender's name Jason Andio and Jimmy Rido.

This package was addressed to recipients on behalf of Desi in Topo Indah Housing and Mirabella in Cibeureum Village, Margaasih District, Bandung, West Java. Desi and Mirabella are fictitious names from AM and LS.

The first package contained a gray jar labeled Recovery Drink. Inside, 710 grams of MDMA powder was stored. The second package contained two white jars marked Bodymass Vegan Protein Plant Based Protein Powder. Each jar contained ecstasy powder weighing 398 and 395 grams.

Hengki stated that the police arrested two suspects with the initials AM and LS, a husband and wife who acted as the recipient in Indonesia.

AM was arrested at KPPBC Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta on Friday, March 8, 2024. LS, a Chinese national, was arrested at Taman Kopo Indah 2 Block 1 B2 Number 2, Rahayu Village, Margaasih District, Bandung Regency, West Java, on the same day at 03:30 p.m.

The police are still pursuing one person with the initials LQX who acted as a controller. According to Hengki, LQX is currently in China.

For their actions, the suspects are charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) subsidiary to Article 112 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. They are now threatened with a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years in prison.
