1. ASEAN-Australia Special Summit Produces Melbourne Declaration

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stated that the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit resulted in two documents, namely the 'Melbourne Declaration' and the ASEAN-Australia Leaders Vision Statement.

"The Melbourne Declaration contains the direction of cooperation in the political-security, economic, and socio-cultural sectors going forward," Marsudi noted in a transcript of her press statement regarding the summit, as received on Wednesday.

2. Indonesia at ASEAN-Australia Summit: Discusses Palestine, EV, and Rice Import with Cambodia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi arrived in Indonesia on Wednesday evening, March 6, 2024, after a three-day visit to Melbourne for the ASEAN-Australia Summit. During the summit, Jokowi sought to strengthen cooperation with neighboring countries and emphasize Indonesia’s international principles in regional forums.

The Summit also commemorated the 50th anniversary of ASEAN and Australia’s cooperative relationship. In the second session of the summit, which raised the theme 'Our Vision for the Region and Addressing Shared Challenges', Jokowi emphasized the importance of respecting international law for ASEAN members and Australia. "Indonesia opposes black campaigns and discrimination that use environmental pretexts without scientific evidence," Jokowi said as quoted from a statement by the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday.

3. Govt Says Jakarta Remains Capital City Before Presidential Decree on IKN Transfer Issued

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi's Special Staff on Legal Affairs Dini Purwono said Jakarta remains the capital city until the issuance of a Presidential Decree on capital city transfer. She said this was based on Article 39 of the IKN Law.

"When exactly the Presidential Decree will be issued, depends entirely on the President's authority," Dini said in a short message to Tempo on Thursday.

Dini then referred to Article 41 of the 2022 IKN Law. The article states that after the IKN Presidential Decree is issued, Jakarta’s status as the capital city of Indonesia is revoked and declared invalid.
