TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (Persero) or InJourney stated that the number of spectators of the 2024 F1 Powerboat in Lake Toba on March 2 to 3, reached 70,000 people.

"We would like to thank all parties who were enthusiastic for this event. We hope this event can bring a positive impact on Lake Toba's tourism and also the economy of the surrounding community," InJourney's Marketing and Tourism Program Director, Maya Watono, noted in a statement on Monday.

With a variety of interesting events, coupled with the beauty of Lake Toba, F1 Powerboat is one of the highly anticipated championship events, she remarked.

According to Watono, the 2024 Lake Toba F1 Powerboat Grand Prix, which took place at Mulia Raja Harbor, Balige, Toba District, North Sumatra Province, was attended by around 17 racers from 11 countries.

A racer from the Sharjah Team, Rusty Wyatt, emerged as the winner, while Victory Team's Erik Stark (SWE) came second, and Jonas Andersson (SWE) from Team Bình nh-Vietnam stood third.

The Aquabike Indonesia Championship (AIC), a national jet ski racing event, was also held simultaneously along with F1 Powerboat, Watono noted.

This event was attended by around 20 Indonesian racers and was an opportunity for the athletes to improve their performance. They were also expected to participate in the Aquabike Jetski World Championship at Lake Toba later this year.

According to Watono, the success of F1 Powerboat 2024 is expected to bring an economic impact that can surpass that of the F1 Powerboat 2023 in Lake Toba that was capable of bringing an economic impact of up to Rp1.68 trillion (US$101 million).

In addition, organizing activities in several super-priority tourism destinations (DPSP), including Lake Toba, is one of InJourney's efforts to develop the tourism ecosystem in Indonesia, she affirmed.

Such activities are expected to drive the realization of sustainable tourism in Indonesia for a better economic impact, she remarked.

"We hope this kind of activity can bring a multiplier effect. However, to develop tourism destinations, we need concerted efforts through the collaboration of various parties, such as the local government, private sector, and state-owned enterprises (SOEs)," Watono stated.
