Garuda Indonesia Increases Domestic Flight Frequency to Attract Foreign Tourists

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State airliner Garuda Indonesia increases flight frequency of 16 domestic routes across the archipelago starting April to August 2024.

Garuda Indonesia president director Irfan Setiaputra hopes that the increase could attract tourists, especially foreign tourists, to visit various destinations in Indonesia.

He explained that the increase in flight frequency was required to promote destinations across the country so it will give positive impacts to the national economy.

“Amid the optimism in the growth of the global tourism industry, the increase of flight frequency is one of the stimuli for people’s traveling trend,” Irfan said in a written statement received by Tempo on Friday, March 1, 2024.

The routes with the increase in flight frequency include the flights from Jakarta to a number of big cities. Here is the detail:

  • Palembang (from 24 to 32 flights per week);
  • Yogyakarta (from 28 to 35 flights per week);
  • Pontianak (from 13 to 19 flights per week);
  • Batam (from 14 to 21 flights per week);
  • Pekanbaru (from 14 to 21 flights per week);
  • Padang (from 14 to 19 flights per week);
  • Semarang (from 21 to 26 flights per week;
  • Balikpapan (from 14 to 19 flights per week);
  • Makassar (from 17 to 21 flights per week); and
  • Banda Aceh (from 14 to 15 flights per week).
  • Jakarta-Pangkalpinang (from 7 to 9 flights per week);
  • Jakarta-Tanjung Pinang (from 6 to 7 flights per week);
  • Jakarta-Malang (from 4 to 7 flights per week);
  • Denpasar-Labuan Bajo (from 1 to 3 flights per week);
  • Jakarta-Lombok (from 12 to 16 flights per week), and
  • Makassar-Gorontalo (from 5 to 7 flights per week).

In addition, Garuda Indonesia performed optimization to expand the network including by opening new routes.

In the first semester of this year, Garuda Indonesia will introduce the Jakarta-Doha route which will operate seven times per week starting on April 4, and open the Makassar-Manado route that will serve the passengers twice a week starting from May 3.
