TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno embarked on a visit to Australia to bolster bilateral cooperation in the tourism and creative economy sectors in an effort to boost foreign tourist visits to the archipelago. Part of his agenda is to meet with local tourism and creative economy players.

“We are working with the Australian tourism and creative industries, including the Flight Centre to increase foreign tourist visits from Australia,” he said in an official statement on Tuesday, February 20.

Flight Centre is one of Australia's largest travel companies. During the meeting, Sandiaga discussed potential cooperation, including promotions.

Australia is among the primary markets for foreign tourists to Indonesia. The Indonesian government hopes that Australian visits will skyrocket and help achieve this year's target of 14.3 million foreign tourist visits.

“The visit of Australian tourists is particularly in line with the target of improving the quality and sustainability of our tourism and creative sectors. It is hoped that there will be closer cooperation between Indonesia and Australia.”

During the working visit, Sandiaga also attended the investors’ roundtable discussion where he addressed Australian investors' concerns about Indonesia's economic and political situation after the presidential election.

“We convey that the situation is safe and that the country's development was poised for a sustainable future,” said Sandiaga Uno.
