TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia or BPS recorded the January export value of Indonesia at US$20.52 billion, which fell 8.34 percent compared to the previous month. The year-on-year calculation of the January export value showed a decline of 8.06 percent.

“Oil and gas export declined 5.49 percent at US$1.39 billion. Non-oil and gas sector fell 8.54 percent with an export value of US$19.13 billion,” said Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti during a press conference at the BPS office today, Feb. 15.

According to her, the sharp decline in Indonesia’s export value in January was caused by a decrease in non-oil and gas exports, “especially in the mineral fuel sector which contributed to a 3.85 percent decline.”

Meanwhile, the decline in non-oil and gas sector exports also occurred in metal ore, slag, and ash by 2.21 percent. In addition, precious metals and jewelry contributed to a decline of 1.49 percent.

On the other hand, the decline in oil and gas exports was driven by a drop in oil exports with a contribution of 0.89 percent.

"On a year-on-year basis, the export value in January 2024 also decreased by 8.06 percent. This decrease was driven by non-oil and gas exports, especially mineral fuels, precious metals and jewelry or gems, machinery, as well as electrical equipment and its parts," said Amalia.
