TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia-made Toyota Fortuner from PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia or TMMIN became the model affected by the rigged certification scandal involving the Japan-based diesel engines.
Vice President Director of TMMIN Bob Azam said the affected model is not the ones marketed in Indonesia, but exported to the Middle East.
"We temporarily halt exports of Fortuner to several Middle Eastern countries while awaiting confirmation from authorities," Bob Azam told Tempo on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
Fortuner is also exported to several countries outside of the Middle East. "The Middle East, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. We cannot mention in detail each of the destination countries since we are abiding by the policies of said countries," he added.
Previously, Toyota Global has re-verified their manufactured mass vehicles to ensure the engines are on par with the standardized performance output.
Toyota Industries Corporation or TICO has decided to temporarily halt affected diesel engines distribution. Toyota also decided to halt the distribution of vehicles with the affected diesel installed in them.
The Japan-based automotive company admitted that it would provide a detailed explanation to authorities and immediately take proper measures, including conducting tests before witnesses if necessary.
