TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential candidate number one Anies Baswedan mentioned that support for people with disabilities is not a charity, but a state responsibility.

"The data must be comprehensive. We need to know how many are disabled, where they are, and what disabilities they have. We must support people with disabilities not as a charity, but to fulfill their human rights and state responsibility," he said during the fifth presidential debate last evening on Sunday, February 4 at JCC Senayan, Jakarta.

Anies proposed a synergy between the central and local governments and to collect the data about disabled citizens. "Always allotted budgets to support their needs. [Local] agencies must acquire the funding to modify schools if needed. Prepare the data, prepare the budget," said the former Jakarta governor.

Meanwhile, presidential candidate number three Ganjar Pranowo said the solution to gather the data of disabled citizens is by implementing KTP Sakti or Invincible ID Card. "One KTP (citizen identity card) could profile everything including the disabilities. While planning for development, they must be given a chance to express their opinion," he said.

According to Ganjar, listening to them will ensure "that no one [is] left behind and they (disabled Indonesians) will get what they want," he said.

On the other hand, Prabowo Subianto, presidential candidate number two said that disability is an important issue to tackle. He claimed that as the head of the Gerindra Party, his party was among those pushing for promulgating the Disability Law.

"We are also committed to providing special education, I also regularly send sports teams for the [Paralympiade]," he said.

In addition, he also said that technological advancement must be used to support people with disabilities in Indonesia.
