Jokowi Appoints Tito Karnavian as Acting Minister to Replace Mahfud Md

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has signed the presidential decree on the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud Md's resignation on Friday, Feb. 2, 2024.

In the decree, Jokowi appointed Tito Karnavian as Acting Minister temporarily replacing Mahfud, "until there is a definitive Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs," said the Coordinator Presidential Special Staff Ari Dwipayana in a brief text on Friday.

Earlier, Jokowi said it would take a couple of days to find a replacement for Mahfud Md. Mahfud is currently running for vice presidential candidacy alongside Ganjar Pranowo. He delivered his resignation letter to President Jokowi on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 1, 2024.

"We'll see. [Mahfud Md just resigned] yesterday afternoon," said the president.

State Secretariat Minister Pratikno and Ari Dwipayana have not commented on who will be the candidates to replace Mahfud Md as minister for the rest of Jokowi's administration.
