TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said the ministry is supporting the development of the Borobudur National Strategic Tourism Zone (KSPN Borobudur) with three programs. Those include road access, improvement of homestays, and management of the area.

"The development of Borobudur through infrastructure development of water resource, road, and bridges, settlement, and housing complex," he said on Thursday, Jan. 26.

The three programs, Basuki explained, include access to toll roads and otherwise to facilitate visitors of Borobudur. Second, the improvement of homestays across the Borobudur corridors to promote business development. And third, management of the area.

Basuki hopes the development could support the conservation of cultural heritage, transform the face of KSPN Borobudur, and improve the comfort of domestic and foreign visitors.

The development also includes the management of Borobudur's gateways, such as Palbapang Gate, Blondo Gate, Kembanglimur, management of Concourse and Borobudur Plaza, and Cultural Axis: Mendut-Pawon-Borobudur.

The PUPR ministry is currently engaging in Phase 2 development consisting of arranging the Borobudur Art Village and Museum in Kujon, Central Java. The development has been ongoing since 2023 and is targeted to finish in 2024.

"The progress has reached 4.3 percent with a budget allocation of Rp253.2 billion. The scope of works includes arranging the Borobudur Art Village and Museum, Kujon Sports Field, and Zone 2 of Borobudur Area," said the head of Central Java BPPW Kuswara.

The Borobudur Art Village spans 10.74 hectares of land with the scope of developmental work of arts & crafts markets, culinary spots, parking area and point access, creative space, arts training center, performance stage shuttle services, toilets, prayer room, and landscape planning.

Meanwhile, the Phase 1 development of KSPN Borobudur finished back in December 2021 and spent over Rp119.5 billion.
