TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government has launched new cardiac catheterization (cath lab) services in five major regional general hospitals (RSUD) in Jakarta.

Jakarta acting governor Heru Budi Hartono said here on Thursday that it is important to make cath labs available in each region because heart disease patients need quick handling.

"The golden time (critical time) during a heart attack must be handled, and the (cath labs) in the five hospitals in Jakarta are ready and easily accessible," he informed while inspecting a cath lab facility at Pasar Minggu Hospital in South Jakarta.

The cath lab facility is a form of transformation and part of efforts to develop superior and priority services in the health sector.

"It is already present in major hospitals; we will try to provide it in every region (in Jakarta)," he affirmed.

In addition to Pasar Minggu Hospital, cath labs have been set up at Tarakan Hospital in Central Jakarta, Pasar Rebo Hospital in East Jakarta, Cengkareng Hospital in West Jakarta, and Koja Hospital in North Jakarta.

Hartono asked Jakartans to maintain their heart health by living a healthy lifedata-style and checking their heart regularly.

"Take care of your health, maintain cholesterol, exercise regularly, live a healthy lifedata-style, and diligently check up on your health," he said.

Head of the Jakarta Provincial Health Office, Ani Ruspitawati, said cath lab services are built as a network by involving the community.

Her side will support training for the public so they can provide first aid during cardiac emergencies.

"Then, send (patients) to health facilities that can serve heart diseases," Ruspitawati said.

People who wish to be screened for all kinds of diseases under normal circumstances, not emergencies, can visit local health centers (puskesmas), she added.
