TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three people were killed when the wall of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina’s gas station in Tebet, South Jakarta collapsed on Sunday, January 21. The wall, which was 30 meters long and 6 meters high, collapsed onto a residential street where a kiosk owned by the victims was located.

The South Jakarta Metro Police are still investigating the cause of the incident. Adj. Sr. Comr. Bintoro, the head of the regional police’s criminal investigation unit, explained that his side has not yet concluded the case as the investigation was still underway.

“We can't conclude yet,” Bintoro said on Monday, January 22, adding that four witnesses have been summoned for questioning.

Two of the victims were an elderly couple named Samedi Riyanto (79) and Thio Tjin Nio (73), while the other one was their child, Amy Kusuma Dewi (34). The incident also injured their grandson, Muhammad Fabian (8), who is now being treated at Tebet Regional Hospital.

According to the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency Chief, Syamsul Huda, the three victims were found dead as they were hit by the wall and were immediately admitted to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).

Pertamina's subsidiary, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, handed over the compensation to the families of the victims. “PT Pertamina Patra Niaga expresses its deepest condolences to the victims and the family,” said Pertamina’s West Java Area Manager Communication, Relations & CSR, Eko Kristiawan, on Monday, January 22.
