TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bandung-bound Turangga Train (KA Turangga) reportedly collided with the Greater Bandung Commuter Line this morning, January 5, at 6:03 a.m. local time in the area between Cicalengka and Haurpugur Stations.

A spokesman for the state-owned railway operator PT KAI of Operational Area (Daop) 2 Bandung, Ayep Hanapi, confirmed that the train accident involved the Turangga train on the Surabaya-Bandung line and the local train on the Padalarang-Cicalengka line.

“At 06:03 WIB, a train accident occurred between the Turangga train connecting Surabaya-Bandung and the commuter train connecting Padalarang-Cicalengka on Jalan Cicalengka-Haurpugur. The evacuation process is still ongoing,” Ayep told Tempo on Friday, January 5.

He could not provide detailed information yet, but five ambulances were mobilized to transport victims to the Cicalengka Hospital.

Risal Wasal, the director general of railways at the Ministry of Transportation, said the ministry had deployed a team to follow up on the case and evacuate the victims. “DJKA (Railways DG) has sent a technical team to secure the site of the incident to follow up and evacuate the victims,” he said in a written statement in Jakarta, on Friday.

Risal explained that the accident involved KA Turangga (KA Plb 65A) and KA Commuterline Bandung Raya (KA 350) in Cikuya District, Cicalengka, specifically on the Cicalengka-Haurpugur KM 181+700 route. “It is located 800 meters before the signal entered Cicalengka Station,” he added.

Risal also said that the Transportation Ministry expressed its concern and condolences to the victims of the incident.
