TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Industry plans to start the operation of a data collection information system for the halal industry dubbed the ‘Saliha’ in January 2024.

"We continue to develop and strengthen service for free halal certification for industry players through a data collection information system of the halal industry, called the Saliha, which we will launch early next year. In January 2024," said the Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang in a discussion in Bali on Thursday night, December 28.

Agus explained that the Saliha app is the main requirement for a free halal certification application in Lembaga Pemeriksa Halal Kementerian Perindustrian. The app was developed by the Industry Ministry and aimed at easing the data collection and selection assistance of Halal Industry Certification in 2023.

The ministry pays special attention to the halal industry as it has huge potential in Indonesia and globally.

In the latest report of State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) on Tuesday, December 26, Indonesia was in the third position at the Global Islamic Economy Indicator Ranking 2022, a rise from the fourth position in the previous year.

The Industry Minister viewed the indicator as a support for Indonesia to continue developing halal products such as food and beverages, cosmetics, pharmacy, and fashion.
