TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - City-owned public transport company PT MRT Jakarta announced its partnership with Mastercard, the global payments and technology company, to enhance the cashless transportation experience. The announcement was made during the inauguration of Senayan Mastercard Station, formerly known as Senayan Station.

Tuhiyat, the MRT President Director, stated that the company is continuously encouraging collaborations to advance the public transportation system, and this partnership proves MRT’s openness to any party in developing Jakarta as the epicenter of the national economy and business.

“We hope to see more collaboration and innovation with Mastercard to improve the experience of MRT passengers,” Tuhiyat said in a written statement quoted on Dec. 18.

Since its launch in 2019, MRT has seen significant growth in the number of passengers. As of November 2023, the average daily number of passengers reached 100,000, surpassing the target of 70,000.

At present, the MRT Phase 2 construction project is underway from Bundaran HI in Central Jakarta to Ancol in North Jakarta. The company expected the number of passengers from Lebak Bulus to Ancol to reach 290,000 daily.

Aileen Goh, the President Director of Mastercard Indonesia, said Mastercard is leveraging global networks and technology to help address challenges in the public sector. “For example, by digitizing vital public services, one of which is transforming the transportation sector,” she said.

Mastercard offers a convenient option to top up and purchase MRT Jakarta cards cashless at all MRT counters using Mastercard debit cards. Passengers can also purchase tickets using a Mastercard credit card via the MyMRTJ app. In addition, all Mastercard cards can be used to purchase MRT cards at all station counters.
