TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Advocates at the Indonesian Democratic Defenders Team (TPDI) and Perekat Nusantara subpoenaed President Joko Widodo or Jokowi over abuse of power allegations. Both organizations mentioned that the president asserted efforts to hold centralized power, affecting the general society.

This group submitted the subpoena on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 6, to the State Secretariat Ministry.

According to one of the advocates in TPDI Petrus Selestinus, the Constitutional Court (MK) decision on Oct. 16 concerning the presidential age limit is an iceberg to expose Jokowi's political dynasty and nepotism.

"People are still talking about it," Petrus said.

The MK decision on the presidential age limit opened a gate for Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Jokowi's son, to become a vice presidential candidate alongside Prabowo Subianto. The decision allowed regional leaders under 40 years of age to contest in the presidential election.

The proceeding itself was controversial since the MK Chief Justice at the time was Anwar Usman, Jokowi's in-law. Recently, the Ethics Council of MK removed him from office due to a conflict of interest.

TPDI and Perekat Nusantara asked Jokowi to meet six of their demands, with a seven-day time limit. Those include restoring state apparatus' neutrality, halting intimidation and nepotism, fixing the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), stopping abuse of power, and stopping the political practice of taking hostages of certain figures ensnared by legal problems.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator of Presidential Special Staff Ari Dwipayana admitted on Wednesday morning that he had not seen the document.
