1. Jokowi Heads to Dubai to Attend COP28 Summit

President Joko Widodo or Jokowi is heading to Dubai, UAE on Thursday, Nov. 30 to attend the climate COP28 Summit. The Summit is scheduled to be held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 12, 2023.

COP28 is a climate conference initiated by the UN and will be kickstarted by financial reports from each country based on the 2015 Paris Agreement. The purpose is to limit emissions to prevent an average global temperature increase above 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Jokowi stated that he would convey Indonesia's experience and stress the importance of global collaboration in climate financing. "And the importance of inclusive transition to ensure sustainable development and welfare in developing countries," he said in a press release received on Thursday, Nov. 30.

2. 50,000 Workers in Jakarta Participate on Strike, Protesting Minimum Wage

The President of the Confederation of the Indonesian Workers' Union (KSPI) Said Iqbal reported that around 50,000 workers in Jakarta will start their national strike today. The workers are demanding the provincial government of Jakarta revise the 2024 minimum wage hike to 15 percent.

"Today is the determining day for workers' struggle. Thus the workers will go on a national strike," Iqbal Said confirmed in a written statement received by Tempo on Thursday.

Halting mass production will occur in several industrial cities in Banten Province, West Java, East Java, and Maluku. "Involving hundreds and even millions of workers across Indonesia," he said.

3. Indonesia's Retno Marsudi on Palestine: 'I Want to Be On the Right Side of History'

Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi was back to discuss Palestine at the UN Security Council open debate on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, calling for concrete actions to stop the violence in Gaza and the West Bank.

"I am back attending the UNSC meeting, because I want to be on the right side of the history. To defend justice and humanity for the Palestinians," she declared, addressing her statement to Zhang Jung, the Chinese representative as the UNSC President in November.

Indonesia was enraged about the unfolding situation in Gaza, she said, and increasingly concerned with the evolving situation in the West Bank with the Increasing numbers of attacks on the Palestinians including in refugee camps.
