TEMPO.CO, Malang - Two Indonesian Air Force EMB 314 Super Tucano tactical fighter jets crashed in Pasuruan Regency, East Java, at 12 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023, during a routine training session.

The spokesman of the Indonesian Air Force First Marshal R. Agung Sasongkojati said in a press statement that two planes taking off from the Abdulrachman Saleh Air Base at 10:51 a.m. lost contact at 11:18 a.m.

The two fighter jets with tail numbers TT-3111 and TT-3103 were piloted by four mid-ranking Indonesian Air Force officers, namely Lieutenant Colonel Pnb Sandhra Gunawan (Frontseater) (TT-3111), Colonel Adm Widiono (Backseater) (TT-3111), Major Pnb Yuda A. Seta (Frontseater) (TT-3103), and Colonel Pnb Subhan (Backseater) ( TT-3103).

In a press conference at the Abdulrachman Saleh Air Base Malang this afternoon, Sasongkojati said three of the four crew members were found dead in the incident.

“The other one is being searched for,” he said, adding that Lieutenant Colonel Sandhra “Chevron” Gunawan is still missing.

Sasongkojati said the crash sites of the two fighter jets were in two different locations. However, both accidents occurred in the north of the mountainous area.
