KPK Arrests Sorong Acting Regent in Sting Operation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK announced that it had arrested Acting Regent of Sorong Yen Piet Mosso and four regional officials in a sting operation. They are a member of Sorong Legislative Council (DPRD) Maniel Syatfle, Head of the Sorong Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPK) Efer Sigidifat, and two BPK auditors for Southwest Papua, David Patasaung and Abu Hanifa.

A spokesperson for the anti-graft body, Ali Fikri, said the five officials were arrested for allegedly falsifying the BPK’s findings on the regional budget or APBD 2023.

“The KPK has arrested several people on suspicion of corruption in connection with the findings of the BPK Audit for Specific Purposes in Southwest Papua,” Ali said in a press statement, on Monday, Nov. 13.

Ali said the investigation was still ongoing, and the KPK has 1 x 24 hours to determine the legal status of those arrested.

Earlier, Ali confirmed that the KPK launched a sting operation in Sorong in the early hours of Nov 12. In addition to the acting regent of Sorong, the agency also arrested BPK auditors.
