TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has left for the United States today, Nov. 13, to visit US President Joe Biden in Washington DC. He planned to convey the messages from the extraordinary high-level summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the current worrying conditions in Palestine.

“The OIC has adopted a resolution that has a very strongly worded message for the world. I will relay this message to President Biden tomorrow (Nov. 13), which represents the voice of 57 countries or one-third of the world's countries,” Jokowi said in a press statement in Washington DC, Sunday, Nov. 12.

He would also relay messages from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. “I will deliver the message that President Abbas asked me to deliver to President Biden,” he added.

The Indonesian leader explained that during the joint Arab-Islamic summit taking place in Riyadh, he called on OIC members to unite and be at the forefront of the fight for justice for the Palestinian people.

“A ceasefire must be implemented soon, humanitarian aid must be accelerated and increased, peace negotiations must begin soon, public facilities and humanitarian activities must not be the target of attacks, and Israel must be held accountable for the atrocities it has committed,” he remarked.

Jokowi also talked of the current issue of the Indonesian Hospital in the besieged Gaza, stressing the importance of respecting international humanitarian law. “The government has and will continue to protect Indonesian nationals and public facilities, including the Indonesian Hospital,” he said.
