TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi conferred an honorary title on FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The title is called Pratama Star of Service or Bintang Jasa Pratama.

The award ceremony was held at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, on Friday, November 10, 2023, to coincide with the celebration of National Heroes Day.

“The awarding of the Bintang Jasa Pratama medal of merit to Giovanni Vincenzo Infantino, President of FIFA,” as quoted from the Presidential Decree No. 70/TK/Tahun 2023 read by the President's Military Secretary Admiral Hersan at the Merdeka Palace as broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account on Friday.

In the Presidential Decree, Infantino was awarded the Medal of Merit for his services that have benefited the Indonesian nation in the field of sports.

"In recognition of his great services in a particular field or event that is beneficial to the security, welfare, and greatness of the nation and state, his dedication and sacrifice in the field of sports are beneficial to the nation and state," Hersan continued.

Another consideration is that Infantino's services have been recognized nationally and internationally.

FIFA, under the leadership of Gianni Infantino, selected Indonesia to host the 2023 U-17 World Cup, replacing Peru, which was not ready to host the youth tournament from November 10 to December 2, 2023.
