TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasted sunny weather in big cities in Indonesia today, September 28, 2023.

That includes Bengkulu, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Gorontalo, Jambi, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Samarinda, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, Pekanbaru, Makassar, and Palembang, which are predicted to be sunny in the afternoon today.

Meanwhile, Aceh, Denpasar, Serang, Banjarmasin, Palangka Raya, Tarakan, Tanjung Pinang, Ambon, Ternate, Mataram, Kupang, Mamuju, Kendari, Manado, and Padang are predicted to be partly cloudy and cloudy.

Light rain will drizzle over Pontianak, Manokwari, and Medan today.

BMKG urged coastal communities to be wary of 4-meter high waves' potential in several parts of Indonesia waters on September 27 and 28, 2023. "We remind the communities living and doing activities in the coastal areas with potential for high waves to remain vigilant," said BMKG Head for Maritime Meteorology Eko Prasetyo.

He said that the wind pattern in the north of Indonesia generally moves from northeast to southwest with 8 to 25 knots in velocity, while in the south of Indonesia, the wind moves from east to northeast with a velocity of 10 to 25 knots. "Highest wind velocity is observed at the south of Sunda Strait, Karimata Strait, south of Makassar Strait, and Bitung-Sitaro Islands waters," he concluded.

High waves of 2.5-4 meters potentially occur at the waters north of Sabang, Mentawa Islands waters to the west of Lampung, Indian Ocean west of Nias Islands-Lampung, west, and south of Sunda Strait, south of Banten waters-East Java, south waters of Bali-Sumba Island, south of Bali-Lombok-Alas Strait, Indian Ocean south of Banten-Sumba Island.
