1. Philippines to Chair ASEAN in 2026 Replacing Myanmar

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi mentioned that the Philippines will serve as the ASEAN Chair in 2026, replacing the conflict-ridden Myanmar.

"Everything has to be preconcerted, and we have ensured that the Philippines will hold the 2026 chairmanship [of ASEAN]," she said after the retreat session of the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta yesterday, September 5, 2023.

Myanmar succumbed to violence and economic instability after the Myanmar junta took a seat in the government post-2021 coup. Tatmadaw, the junta, used violent force on its political opponents.

2. ASEAN Leaders Set to Meet with Dialogue Partners Today

The 43rd ASEAN Summit is entering its second day today, Wednesday, September 6, 2023. Today, the Southeast Asian nation leaders will meet with ASEAN's dialogue partners, such as the US and China.

The ASEAN Summit in Jakarta is not only participated by ASEAN leaders but also other countries such as Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia, the US, and international organizations like the United Nations.

Today, ASEAN will hold meetings with China, South Korea, Japan, the US, and Canada. The bloc's state leaders will also attend the ASEAN Summit Plus Three with Japan and China.

3. ASEAN Summit Day 2, Police Divert Traffic at 3 Roads

The Director of Traffic at Metro Jaya regional police Chief Commissioner Latif Usman mentioned that traffic engineering will be applied to three main roads in Jakarta today in anticipation of the second day of the ASEAN Summit. These roads are Jl. Gatot Soebroto, Jl. Sudirman-Thamrin, and Jl. Rasuna Said (Kuningan).

"We will apply [traffic diversion] at three sectors, Senayan, HI roundabout, and from Kuningan Jl. Rasuna Said," he said in Jakarta on Tuesday as quoted by Antara.

The traffic diversion will start from 08:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. In the afternoon the police also divert the traffic from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
