TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two air quality monitoring platforms, IQAir and Nafas, reported that the air quality in Jakarta and its surroundings were considered unhealthy on Wednesday, September 6 at around 12 p.m.

According to IQAir, Jakarta is the third most polluted city in the world after Lahore in Pakistan and Doha in Qatar. Other most polluted cities include Beijing in China and Kuching in Malaysia.

The air quality of a number of Indonesian cities that fall into the unhealthy category are Depok with a PM 2.5 level of 74 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3), South Tangerang (69 µg/m3), Tangerang (65 µg/m3), Palangkaraya (59.9 µg/m3), and Serang (57.3 µg/m3).

Cities with air quality in the unhealthy category for sensitive groups include Palembang (46 µg/m3), Bekasi (44 µg/m3), Bandung (40.4 µg/m3), Semarang (39.8 µg/m3), and Bandar Lampung (39.6 µg /m3).

Those with air quality in the moderate category include Makassar (31.9 µg/m3), Yogyakarta (31.1 µg/m3), Bogor (30.5 µg/m3), and Denpasar (16 µg/m3).

Meanwhile, the Jakarta-based air monitoring platform Nafas recorded 10 polluted areas across Indonesia with six of them located in Jakarta, as follows:

-Klangonan (Gresik) - 90 µg/m3

-Kembangan Selatan (West Jakarta) - 76 µg/m3

-Karangsari (Tangerang) - 76 µg/m3

-Pegadungan (West Jakarta) - 72 µg/m3

-Punnggangangan Utara (Tangerang) - 70 µg/m3

-Cibubur (East Jakarta) - 68 µg/m3

-Jelambar Baru (West Jakarta) - 66 µg/m3

-Palmerah (West Jakarta) - 67 µg/m3

-Marunda (North Jakarta) - 64 µg/m3

-Serpong (South Tangerang) - 63 µg/m3
